Character Information

Name: Ladd Russo
Age: 25
Fandom: Baccano!
Appearance: He is a 5'7" tall blond-haired and blue-eyed man. Ladd's build is appropriate for someone like him, being fairly muscular (but not like a body builder) and quite strong. Commonly wears a white suit since blood shows up better on it.
History:   http://baccano.wikia.com/wiki/Ladd_Russo   |  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baccano!
Canon Point: After being thrown off the train by the Rail Tracer

Personality:

Ladd Russo's passion in life is to kill, he enjoys it more than anything else there is in the world. Causing suffering and pain (even death) to someone does nothing more than bring a wide grin to his face as he still manages to show his childish nature at the same time. In a simpler way to put it- he's extremely sadistic, and that might be an understatement for this crazy man.

Fighting is something Ladd had grown up knowing, so it is only natural for him to be great at it- it's his 'job'. He is a hitman for the Russo family, a mafia group in Chicago, and he definitely shows his talents frequently; he even killed the family boss. He is definitely the most gifted in the family at what he does- even if he is very loud and childlike about his assassinations.

Thanks to his hitman lifestyle, although, Ladd's fighting skills are ranged. He has a love for boxing- even going as far as to box someone to death in the train's dining hall with his bare fists while he excitedly talking about the sport. It's very evident that his skill in hand-to-hand combat is an extraordinary one and possibly making his fists truly his best asset in a fight. Beyond this, he is also good with firearms, which also excite him so much he'll skip with glee towards the source of the noise. Machine guns are especially delighting to this man, oh lucky him for receiving one from the UAA!

His favorite kind of people to kill are the ones who think they are invincible and will never die, the ones who believe everything will be okay and they'll survive to see another day. This kind of attitude in life just pushes Ladd into HAVING to prove that person wrong- even if it endangers everyone in the vicinities lives (why would he care about that anyway, right?). Killing is his passion in life, even if he knows it's something seen as atrocious to normal people and that he's a monster of a man- it's all just a big laugh to him in the end! But when it comes to his victims, Ladd doesn't care if you're a man or a woman or even a baby! All that matters at the end of the day is that you're going to die by his hand, but it's better for him if you put up a fight. This is evident from...well, every death he causes, but most relevant is Czes.

At first he was amused at the kid's request for him to kill everyone in the dining area. But he says himself beforehand, "Depending on your request, whether I will laugh or get angry, that will decide your lifespan, boy". Ladd has no fear of killing a child, which is possibly what disgusts people even more when it comes to murder stories than if it were an adult's death. But, Czes offers him a cheap price for doing the job, saying he doesn't like being toyed with for loose change and that it's completely pointless to even go through with it. Ladd ends up shooting Czes twice, murdering him, but he says afterwards the reason was because he looked too confident and that the boy's eyes had shown him that he didn't think he could die. The feeling of being underestimated only intensified his want to murder Czes, and so the deed was done.

It's exceedingly rare for Mr. Russo here to spare someone from death- the seemingly only way is if the person is accepting death. This is pretty much the easiest way for Ladd to lose interest in killing somebody, as this was exactly what happened in his fight with Graham. Just in this instance he didn't go through with it because he ended up seeing him as more of a rival, since he deems Graham a strong man that only he can do-in. Beyond his “who lives or dies” judgements, he has no real loyalties to anyone except perhaps Lua.

Ladd's love of killing is so intense, that it's managed to push its way into his romantic life as well. His fiancé Lua (who has some issues herself- seemingly suicidal for one) is the only other person he has spared the life of. The reasoning for her to stay alive isn't out of pity or love or anything typical though- he's saving her for last, and she's all for this. His dream is to kill every human being on the face of the earth, but Lua means so much to him that she has to be his finale, and tells her constantly throughout the series that she better not let herself get taken out by anyone else. He also sees Chane's challenge to him on the train rooftop as an act of love, and 'accepts' it by attempting to kill her, too. If you want to go with crack endings, he even dumps Lua to be with the Rail Tracer in the DS Game because of similar violence...Basically the best way to ever express your love (to Ladd) is to kill the person you feel this way for. Love may just be what drove Ladd to these crazy killing-obsessed lengths he's ended up at, as the woman he was with before his current fiancé had been murdered. It was something he couldn't prevent, which had led him to the belief that controlling his significant other can keep them from harm that isn’t inflicted by his own hands.

As mentioned under appearance, Ladd has a strong body to go along with his physical strength. When fighting Graham he had been hit with a giant wrench and didn't even move a muscle from the impact. His fists alone have managed to punch a guy's face into a bloody pulp. Even flying off of a train and hitting the ground didn’t kill the man, although this did injure him quite a bit.

A major part of his personality is the fact he is very emotional. Ladd wears his emotions on his sleeve, always extremely confident in himself in what he does. He believes he is capable of massacring everybody else in the world, a trait that is confident while at the same time shows just how cocky he is. Ladd will ask his victims sometimes if they are scared of him, which is always met by an arrogant grin since he believes full-heartedly that they should because they encountered him. They should feel honored to be killed by him!

Ladd is, despite his very violent nature and the fact he is 25-year-old man, a very childish individual. He gets giddy over the thought of slaughtering innocents and dancing in his own dead partner’s blood out of joy. Along with it is a child-like hyperactive energy which is seen in his fighting. The fight in the dining car reflects on this well, as when he punched the black suited man to death his punches were filled with an energetic charisma and were swift and continuous, as he only got more and more thrilled as he went. Besides these bits of him, Ladd does still show a very strong intellect to go along with all of his other skills and assets, it just gets unbalanced thanks to his clear mental instability.

Game Specific

Suitability:

Ladd is the kind of guy the UAA would love to throw into the mix to spice up the game. While most of the current assassins they’ve brought in are against killing, this guy here loves it. He’s guaranteed to put on a nice, bloody show for the viewers, there’s absolutely no doubt about that.

Weapon:
Ladd’s weapon is, much to everyone else’s misfortune, a rechargeable one that could almost be compared in looks to a tommy gun. It works like any normal gun should when it comes to pulling the trigger, just instead of bullets, it shoots a bright green laser. The gun recharges by being swung in a way that is similar to how you’d swing a baseball bat. He may or may not hit someone with it like one, too.

Other than the laser, Ladd’s weapon unfortunately doesn’t have much else going for it due to his already deadly nature. With upgrades, he will be able to do more to it so that it can improve beyond this simple weapon design the UAA has given him to start with, although.

Samples

Log/Third Person Sample:

Well, well, well! What a surprise!
This place sure didn’t look familiar, just where had he ended up and where was Lua? Last Ladd Russo remembered happening to him was falling off the Flying Pussyfoot with his lovely fiance, thanks to that damned Rail Tracer. But there wasn’t even a railroad track around from what he could see by looking out the crappy motel room window.

Not to mention that Santa Destroy looked nothing like the city he was familiar with. Jumping from the mobster era up to now would normally blow some poor soul's mind, but Ladd? No, of course not! There was much more important things afoot here for him to focus on!

Things like this box that had been toppled over onto it's side when he had gotten up from the bed to look outside, which was now slightly ajar after hitting the floor.

Things like the fancy gun laying halfway out of it.

He reached down and snatched up the firearm, examining it with a pleased grin on his face. "Now what d' we have here?"

Ladd turned it over in his hands a couple times, examining it thoroughly. The gun was sort of like a Thompson sub-machine gun, but still way too different to possibly actually be such. This fine looking weapon had a more futuristic appearance than he was used to.

"Where the hell do the bullets go on this thing?" he muttered to himself. The weapon was now in his hand, handle gripped. Without a second thought the trigger was pulled back- but Ladd wasn't greeted by gun shots like he expected as bits of the ceiling fell onto him.

That was the sound of a laser being shot. It was a foreign sound to him, and he loved it. Whoever lived in the room above him probably wasn't nearly as thrilled as this very excited man was right now. This wasn't such a bad way to wake up at all.

Journal Entry/First Person Sample:

So I appear to be a low ranked assassin here, and I figure this needs some changin.

Who wants t' be the lucky person to get killed by Ladd Russo? Huh? [The man was holding a strange gun, tapping it against his shoulder as he spoke. An arrogant grin was on his face, he knew no matter who answered this call, he'd take them down.

He'd be number 1 soon enough, but who would want to go home once getting there? Not this guy, and once he was there nobody would be leaving for sure.]
